Default Cataclysm Currency Guide

Hello WoWGuideOnline,

Today, I am going to tell you how you can get a jump-start into Cataclysm gold wise. Just follow this guide and you will have plenty of money for your Azeroth Flying or whatever. :O

Azeroth Flying: Cost - 250g

Azeroth Flying Boost: (All fliers are 310%) Cost - 4500g

GUIDE:

1. Do be an idiot when it comes to professions - Sure Leather-working and Tailoring seem like nice professions but they take forever to level and honestly I have not seen much in the way of recipes that bowl me over. Yes there are good patterns to be had, but this is about making gold not good gear (which you should be getting from heroics anyway). Mining =huge moneymaker. Farm ore, sell ore (bars are less profitable) Ore is a prime ingredient in Jewelcrafting, and Blacksmithing which means it will disappear off the Auction House in no time. Skinning is not as profitable since Leatherworkers take up 90% of your buying market and 2 professions needing ore is better than just one needing leather. Herbalism is another money maker too since you get Alchemists and Scribes needing your precious flowers. With the upcoming xpac, gathering materials will be in high demand since people will be clamoring for them. I’m still on the fence about Enchanting. A lot of people make a ton of money, I have never had the fortune of turning a profit with Enchanting.

2. Cloth is the key – Back in the days of Vanilla, leveling First Aid was always something people “required” for raiding. I honestly cannot remember the last time I leveled First Aid ( I have 4, soon to be 6 80s and 1 has full first aid). It just seems like a waste of time when you have pots, healing spells and food at your disposal. This leaves you with tons and tons of cloth that you can sell for tons of gold. My current fortune is 90% cloth selling. Wool, Runecloth, and Mageweave sell for insane amounts of money so farming these is a must. Again with the xpac coming out people will be stockpiling cloth so now is the time to cash in!

3. Don’t be afraid to sell low - Anytime you are int he auction house you see it: Some guy selling a middle of the road item for 500 Gold. It’s stupid. Your goal is to sell your item. Just search and undercut. You’d be amazed how fast things sell if you go under 3-5 Gold on an item. Scaling prices helps a lot too. For example selling linen cloth 20 stacks start at lets say 1 gold/stack after 5 stacks or so you can up it to 1.5g then 2 and so on. That way you are controlling the cut, selling your items and making a sound profit.

4. Playing the AH is like playing with fire – A lot of my more fiscal oriented friends swear by the burn and turn strategy. They stockpile an item, then buy out all of it in the AH creating a demand. Then they are able to set the price as they see fit. Personally I never saw much success in this approach. I found myself just buying out over and over again just to keep my hold on the market. Plus since you have to constantly buy you can easily eat into your profits since you have to fight to keep the market down.

5. Don’t be afraid of the FotM – The WoW economy is heavily based on Flavors of the Month. When you have been playing for a long time and have several 80 characters Don’t hesitate to get on a character with a profession in order to make money. Vary up your profession combos. This also lets you save money since you don’t have to pay for gems, enchants etc…

There you have it. Again this is not a “do this and you will be rich” guide. Its mostly some trends I have seen over and over as a WoW player. Comments and tips are much appreciated.

P.S.

Hope this helps!

Nice info!

I've managed to save 10kg from doing dailies in WotLK. But I have a feeling I'll be needing more gold soon.

If your talking about the flying that changes ALL of your flyers to 310% flight speed, I don't think it is worth it. That is just my opinion though.

The decision is completely up to you though.

Since this guide is out-of-date, I'll be closing the thread to forbid "post bumping."
