General WoW

What’s in a Guild?

So, maybe you’re new to WoW and are thinking, “What’s a guild and why should I join? Whose guild do I choose? Are there different types of guilds?” Or maybe you’ve been playing for awhile and have been in 1 or more guilds during that time. Either way you have a choice. I’m going to cover some basic guild types, but I’d love to hear your opinions on different kinds of guilds. My intention is simply to raise awareness of what’s available out there. :) (My terms for types of guilds were created by me and are from no other sources than my personal opinion)

Bank Guild – A guild simply set up for one or more people to use to store stuff. It can be a single person with several alts who just wants the extra space a guild bank provides. It can also act as a way for that player to be on with an alt and avoid getting invited to 14 million random guilds. This can also serve a small group of players, such as friends or family members that use the bank together for storage.

Family Guild – If a group of players are all related and want to spend time specifically with their family while playing they may create a strictly family guild. No recruiting necessary :)

Friends Guild – Pretty much the same as a family guild, probably no recruiting happening and usually these are Real Life friends who also play together.

“Fun” Guild – Basically a group of people interested in playing WOW for it’s base purpose, to have fun. Working together to complete quests, holiday events, socialize, and just enjoy the game. This is not meant to say other guilds are not fun, but there is just no specific goal to this kind of guild except to enjoy your time in WOW.

Raid Guild – A group of people who are excited and motivated to plan and execute raids, 10-25 man instances. In order to have a successful Raid Guild it must include: players who are well geared, or on their way there; dedicated times for such raids, including a calendar with sign-ups; players who are serious about succeeding in the raids; leaders who are willing to put in a lot of time to organize and keep the raid on target; active recruiting for players ready to jump into raids. This of course is not an exhaustive list, but you get the idea. Raid guilds can most certainly be fun, but you just need to know what you are committing to.

Combo Guild – Of course as with everything there is the guild that is made up of a little bit of everything! Family, friends, those just leveling and questing, those trying to get raids going, etc.

Essentially, check around for the type of guild you want to be a part of. Ask around, talk to members of different guilds, get a feel for how each guild works, see if your personality and play style fits the group you join. The purpose of WOW is to have fun, just find a group that you can have fun with!

Now….GO PLAY WoW!!!!!!! :) See you there!
